China’s Space Achievements in 2025

The year 2025 marked a significant advancement in space exploration for China, as the country set a new record for the number of space launches in a single year. As the year draws to a close, China continues to solidify its position as a rising space power, reflecting the substantial efforts it is making in this field.

New Records

In 2025, China achieved a major milestone by conducting 72 space launches, surpassing the previous record of 68 launches set the previous year. This accomplishment highlights the remarkable progress in its technological and logistical capabilities in the space sector.

During one weekend in November, China successfully carried out four launches. Two of these launches used Long March rockets, which are the backbone of China’s space program. These rockets are operated by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, a state-owned enterprise.

Launch Details

On November 8, China launched a Long March 11H rocket carrying three Shiyan-32 satellites. These satellites are intended to test new space technologies, demonstrating China’s commitment to developing advanced space technologies.

On November 9, a Long March 12 rocket was launched carrying a batch of broadband communication satellites. These are part of the SatNet constellation, which could eventually include up to 13,000 satellites in low Earth orbit.

China also witnessed two other launches by private companies: the Kinetica-1 rocket, also known as Lijian-1, successfully launched two Earth observation satellites. However, the Ceres-1 rocket encountered a technical issue, resulting in the loss of three satellites on board.

Global Space Competition

Despite China’s impressive achievements, it remains second to the United States in the number of space launches in 2025. The United States conducted over 150 launches, most of which were Falcon 9 rockets by SpaceX, focusing on expanding the Starlink communications constellation.

Increased collaboration with the private sector and a focus on research and development have significantly enhanced China’s capabilities in this area, reflecting its ambitious strategy to strengthen its position in the global space race.

Conclusion

China continues to make remarkable progress in the field of space exploration, setting new records in 2025. By fostering cooperation between the government and private sectors and developing advanced space technologies, China aims to establish itself as a major space power on the international stage. With this momentum, the future seems to hold even more achievements for China in this domain.
