Axiom-4 Mission Nears Completion

The Axiom-4 mission is approaching its conclusion, with its crew of four astronauts having spent their time on the International Space Station conducting unique scientific experiments, enjoying breathtaking views of Earth, and tasting international cuisine.

Axiom-4 Crew Composition

The Axiom-4 crew consists of Commander Peggy Whitson, Pilot Shubhanshu “Shax” Shukla, and Mission Specialists Sławosz “Sław” Uznański and Tibor Kapu. They have all been aboard the International Space Station since their SpaceX Dragon capsule docked with the station on June 26.

Their tasks included more than 60 research experiments and outreach activities, achieving a record number of orbital activities for Axiom missions.

Scientific Experiments and Achievements

During a scientific briefing on July 5, scientists discussed with the crew some of the experiments they worked on, including investigations into the effects of microgravity on microorganisms and their use as a resource in space.

Tibor Kapu conducted experiments in radiation measurement, working on developing a small wearable device to monitor radiation exposure.

Meanwhile, Sławosz Uznański spoke about a brainwave interface experiment that allows machines to be controlled solely by the brain, a first-time achievement in space.

International Collaboration

Peggy Whitson noted that the research conducted by the Axiom-4 crew not only benefits the scientific community but also supports growing international partnerships in space. She mentioned that the experiments carried out by the crew include contributions from 31 countries worldwide.

Shax expressed his pride in the collaboration between the Indian Space Research Organisation and national institutions to deliver outstanding research.

Daily Life in Space

Despite busy schedules, the crew emphasized their ability to adapt to microgravity conditions. They noted that they became more efficient and less stressed over time.

Sławosz expressed his love for photographing Earth from space, spending any free time near the station’s large cupola windows.

Conclusion

The Axiom-4 mission stands as a remarkable example of international cooperation in space, bringing together scientists and astronauts from around the world to conduct innovative experiments. As the mission nears its end, it can be said that it has achieved its scientific goals and opened new horizons for space collaboration.
