The journey of the Ceres-1 rocket began in November 2020. It was designed as a small solid-fuel rocket capable of delivering a payload of up to 400 kilograms to low Earth orbit. Initially, the rocket achieved consecutive successes, completing nine successful launches before encountering its first failure in September 2023.

The rocket stands approximately 19 meters tall and is designed to transport payloads to low Earth orbit at competitive prices. However, during its twenty-second launch in November 2025, the rocket faced another failure when it could not successfully complete the fourth stage, resulting in the loss of the three payloads it was carrying.

Causes and Consequences

According to media reports, the first three stages of the launch were successful, but the fourth and final stage failed prematurely, leading to the mission’s failure. The lost payloads included two satellites belonging to the Jilin-1 commercial Earth observation constellation, as well as a vehicle developed by Chongqing University.

Following the failure, Galactic Energy issued an apology to its clients and supporters, affirming its commitment to analyzing the causes of the failure and improving the rocket’s design and quality management systems to prevent such errors in the future.

Technical Challenges and Future Prospects

Private space companies face numerous technical challenges, from rocket design to quality management and risk analysis. These challenges are integral to the rocket development process, as companies strive to enhance technology and ensure the highest levels of safety and reliability.

Despite the recent failure, Galactic Energy continues to develop its projects, working on the more powerful Ceres-2 rocket and the Palace-1 rocket, which will feature a reusable first stage, similar to SpaceX’s Falcon 9.
