South Korea’s AI Transformation with NVIDIA

South Korea’s AI Transformation with NVIDIA

South Korea is undergoing a significant transformation in the field of artificial intelligence, collaborating with NVIDIA to enhance its AI infrastructure. This partnership involves the use of hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs in sovereign clouds and AI factories, supporting sectors such as automotive, manufacturing, and telecommunications.

Sovereign AI Infrastructure in South Korea

South Korea is a leader in technology and manufacturing, positioning itself at the forefront of the new industrial revolution driven by AI. The collaboration between NVIDIA and South Korea aims to build AI infrastructure as crucial as power grids and broadband internet.

Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, stated that South Korea can now produce intelligence as a new export driving global transformation, noting that Korea’s physical factories have previously inspired the world with advanced products like ships, cars, and semiconductors.

Government Plan to Enhance AI

The Korean government plans to deploy up to 50,000 new NVIDIA GPUs to support sovereign AI programs for companies and research groups. The first phase includes adding 13,000 GPUs through providers like NAVER Cloud, NHN Cloud, and Kakao.

The plan also involves efforts to establish a national intelligent computing center, enabling startups, researchers, and other entities to use this sovereign infrastructure for training models and developing new applications.

Major Companies Building Sovereign AI Factories

Major companies in Korea are investing in advanced AI infrastructure to support digital production, network operations, and manufacturing tools. NVIDIA and Samsung plan to build a new AI factory linking chip manufacturing with accelerated computing.

The new factory will use over 50,000 NVIDIA GPUs to support data-driven production methods, including predictive maintenance and process optimization across chip factories.

Expanding AI Capabilities for SK Group

SK Group is building an AI factory with more than 50,000 NVIDIA GPUs, expected to be completed by late 2027. This factory will support SK’s subsidiaries and external clients by providing GPU as a service in line with Korea’s sovereign AI strategy.

SK Telecom plans to build an industrial AI cloud using NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 GPUs, which will support semiconductor manufacturing, digital twins, and internal AI agents.

Conclusion

The joint efforts between NVIDIA and South Korea represent a significant step toward enhancing the country’s AI infrastructure. By focusing on developing sovereign clouds and AI factories, South Korea aims to lead in this field, paving the way for substantial transformations across multiple sectors such as manufacturing and telecommunications. This collaboration reflects South Korea’s ambitious vision to be a beacon of technological innovation in the new digital era.
